How to Apply for TRC Online in Poland: Everything Changed in 2026
If you live in Poland as a foreigner, applying for a TRC just got very different. Since 27 April 2026, you can no longer submit a paper application for a residence permit. Everything has moved online. If you are not prepared, your application can be delayed — or rejected.
This guide explains exactly what changed, what you need to do, and why working with a specialist TRC agency like Burman Robinson makes the whole process safer and faster.
What сhanged on 27 April 2026?

The Polish government launched a new online system called the MOS portal.
Since that date:
- All TRC applications must be submitted online through the MOS portal
- Paper applications are no longer accepted
- Applications sent by post that arrived after 27 April 2026 will not be processed — even if they were sent earlier
There are no more queues at the voivodeship office. There is no more booking an appointment for TRC just to hand in documents. You do everything from your computer.
This sounds simple. But the process has several steps that are easy to get wrong.
Who needs to use the new system?
The online TRC application is now required for:
- Work TRC — if you work in Poland
- Student TRC — if you study at a Polish university
- Business TRC — if you run a company or sit on a company board
- Renewal TRC — if you are extending your existing permit
- Marriage TRC and family reunion TRC — for family members of Polish or EU citizens living in Poland
- Blue Card (EU) — for highly qualified workers
- Permanent residence and EU long-term residency applications
Not sure which type applies to you? An immigration lawyer TRC can tell you immediately — and a wrong choice can cost you months.

How to Apply for TRC Online — Step by Step
Submitting your application through the MOS portal involves several key stages:
Register at mos.cudzoziemcy.gov.pl. Old accounts no longer work — you must create a new one.
You need a profil zaufany or qualified electronic signature before you can submit anything.
Digital photo, passport scans, payment confirmations, and signed attachments from your employer or university.
For work TRC and student TRC, a third party must digitally sign part of your application. Delays here are common.
Stamp duty (340–640 PLN) and residence card fee (100 PLN) — paid to two different bank accounts by transfer.
Sign electronically and submit. You will receive a certificate that replaces the old passport stamp.
What happens after you submit?
After the voivodeship office reviews your application:
- You will be called in person to give fingerprints and a signature sample, and to show your original passport
- If any documents are missing, you will be asked to provide them
- The final decision will be sent to the address you provided
4 Mistakes that can hurt Your application
The MOS portal is free to use. But small errors have big consequences.
- Not having a profil zaufany ready Without it, you cannot sign or submit. Setting it up takes days — not hours.
- Paying fees to one account instead of two The stamp duty and the residence card fee go to separate accounts. Combining them is one of the most common mistakes.
- Employer delays on digital signatures If your employer is slow to sign their attachment, your legal stay may expire before you can submit. A TRC attorney can help you manage this timeline.
- Choosing the wrong permit type Selecting the wrong TRC type leads to a negative decision TRC. You then have to go through an appeal TRC process — adding months to your situation.
